PRESENTATIONS

Join artist and pet columnist, Faith Cleary, as she delves into the wonderful world of pet portraits. Learn tips, techniques and valuable strategies for creating your pet’s portrait. Faith also teaches pet lovers how to make a special spot for a beloved pet in their craft space or studio. Each student will be given hand-outs and will see a fabulous trunk show of pieces guaranteed to inspire creativity.

THREAD SKETCHED PET PORTRAITS

As seen on Quilting Arts television series 800 and DVD “Pet Picture Quilts Made Easy.” A one-hour digital slide show and trunk show. This lecture focuses on the essential ingredients for creating a realistic pet portrait. Learn tips about photographing your pet, choosing the best photo to work from, fabric and thread selection, creating an applique “road map,” and telling your pet’s story in the background.

THREAD PAINTING YOUR PET’S PORTRAIT

As seen in “In Stitches E-Mag" 2nd Edition. A one-hour digital slide show and trunk show. Learn the process of how to turn a photograph of your pet into a beautifully thread-painted pet portrait. Also learn how to select the best photo to work from, line drawing on muslin, reverse hooping, thread selection and how to paint with the sewing machine needle.  I give tips that make a complicated process much easier and reveal a trunk show full of wonderful finishing ideas.

WORKSHOPS

In my workshops I share my passion for creating realistic animal portraits in fabric and thread sketching.  Creating an atmosphere of fun, relaxed learning , students gain a working knowledge of how to create a treasured portrait.
2012 Workshops: 6 hour - $550   9 hour - $900

For engagements requiring more than four hours of travel, I require a minimum booking of one lecture and two six hour workshops. I am also available on an hourly basis for those students who wish to have private tutoring.

LEARNING TO THREAD SKETCH A DOG OR CAT

Students will learn how to thread sketch a dog or cat. I teach the essential elements of rendering a realistic pet using applique and thread sketching. Students can choose from either the dog or cat shown above. I will provide all of the materials for $15 fee payable at the beginning of class. We will cover:

-Tips on photographing a pet
-Fabric and thread selection
-Tools to make thread sketching easier
-Line drawing
-Creating fur, eyes, and dimensional noses
-Telling your pet’s story

Requirements: sewing machines for each student, access to power outlets, several light boxes, two ironing boards, two irons, table space, and adequate lighting.

Experience Level: Intermediate
Time: 6 hours

THREAD SKETCHING YOUR PET’S PORTRAIT

Students will learn how to work from a photograph of their pet to create a realistic thread sketched portrait. Previous knowledge of thread sketching is essential. Included in this class, I set time aside with each student to discuss their pet portrait individually. In the class we cover:

-Tips on photographing your pet
-Photograph selections
-Creating an applique “road map”
-Fabric selections
-Creating fur patterns, eyes and dimensional noses
-Fun finishing ideas for your pet’s portrait

Requirements: sewing machines for each student, access to power outlets, several light boxes, two ironing boards, table space, and adequate lighting.

Experience Level Intermediate to advanced
Time:9 hours (1 ½ days)

THREAD PAINTING YOUR PET’S PORTRAIT

Students will learn how to create a realistic portrait of their pet in thread. Prior knowledge of thread painting is essential. Included with this class is time set aside with each student to discuss their pet’s portrait. In class we cover: tips on photographing your pet, the “perfect” photograph, thread selection, fur patterns, and great finishing ideas for the portrait.

Requirements: sewing machines for each student, access to power outlets, several light boxes, two ironing boards, two irons, table space, and adequate lighting.

Level: Intermediate – Advanced
Time: 9 hours (1 ½ days)
